Traditional Design Meets Innovation at the Design Museum Holon
21st Nov 2013
I am excited about the new Design Museum Holon, in the city of Holon in Israel, just south of Tel Aviv. This museum, which opened just over a year ago, is an important addition to the design world.
I write about New York as my current design muse, but it all started in Israel, where my mother is a ceramics artist. My cousin is a glass artist, and we've always had family friends who are artists too. I’m planning to write more about them soon here on the blog. They were very important influences on my early interest in art and design.
The Design Museum Holon was created by Ron Arad, an installation artist. The building itself is a work of art. Its Mission is to “explore the impact of design and the relationship of design to urban spaces and every day life.” The current "New Olds” Exhibit is about traditional design meeting innovation.
I can certainly relate to that.
